A White Kitchen Done Right in Abita Springs

Bright white kitchens are having a moment – not just among our clients, but in 2021 kitchen design trends overall.

When done right, it’s easy to see why.

The crisp monochromatic vibe of a well-designed white kitchen creates an inviting and cheery atmosphere…a nice complement in homes with darker-hued rooms.

It’s a fine line, though.

When it’s not done right, white kitchens can quickly walk a path into sterile, clinical, and lacking when it comes to personality.

(But that’s why we’re here!)

We recently helped our client, Margo, create the white kitchen of her DREAMS in her new home. We also made sure this was a case of white done right. There’s nothing “clinical” about this one. Read on and see for yourself!

Renovating in the Time of COVID

Savvy renovators a few times over, Margo, and her husband, Brent, had decided in early 2020 they wanted to wait to renovate the kitchen of their new Abita Springs home.

“Then COVID happened,” Margo says with a laugh.

Like so many Americans, Margo, Brent, and their 11-year-old daughter, Callie, found themselves at home for weeks and months on end. With each passing day, the existing problems of their previous kitchen only grew bigger.

From lack of counter space and storage to wear and tear and an overall dated (but well-loved!) appearance, there was a lot of room for improvement in their kitchen.

BEFORE

“COVID made it feel like now was our chance to update and get things in working order,” Margo says.

Choosing Singer Kitchens to Create Their Dream Kitchen

Margo was familiar with Singer Kitchens already thanks to her previous research for other remodel projects she and Brent had completed. She reached out to our designer, Holly, in the summer of 2020 and it was one of those perfect calls where personalities instantly clicked.

This is what we love! The ‘stars’ seemed to align with this renovation project.

Making Margo’s Design Goals Reality

We quickly got to work evaluating Margo’s existing kitchen, understanding her vision, and dreaming up possibilities while working within the kitchen’s existing footprint.

We used our SingerSight 3-D design software to conceptualize and tweak a virtual design that would help Margo and Brent visualize the new kitchen and make changes based on their preferences.

As part of the remodel, we:

  • Added and extended white cabinetry up to the ceiling to create additional storage
  • Extended the bar area, adding additional countertop workspace for food prep, dining, and even Callie’s homework
  • Added a small multifunctional island that stores the microwave, adds storage, and serves as a great entertaining spot to house drinks, snacks, and serving items when guests are over

We loved working with Margo to learn, talk-through, and incorporate touches of her own unique style into the finished room. We helped her choose her color scheme, cabinets, countertops, flooring, and new modern light fixtures.

Small touches also add interesting flair to Margo’s new kitchen. For example, a small alcove above the refrigerator adds levity and a focal point for treasured items. Glass cabinet doors allow Margo to show off her eye-catching servingware. Plus, an antique copper sink with custom patina, copper faucet, and copper oven hood – dreamed up & expertly found by Margo! – add even more personality to the space.

“Margo’s personal style really showed through in all of her choices,” says Nancy Christopher, our VP of Sales. “She added texture in several ways…from the mixing of the unique metals to pairing the white with the darker peninsula run, and the backsplash and beadboard island backing. We loved working with her to help fine-tune her ideas and infuse her artistic style into the room.”

A Stress-Free Kitchen Design Experience For All

“I had a very definite idea of what I wanted in my new kitchen and I was so pleased that Holly and Nancy were willing to work with me,” Margo reflects. “They never tried to force ideas and they would diplomatically reign me in when needed.”

That’s our job after all.

It isn’t to design a space with our preferences. It’s to take your ideas & wants and transform them into a finished kitchen design that you love! We handle all the logistics, from creating your design plan to helping you choose products to lining up the contractor.

“If you don’t have a clear idea of what you want in your kitchen, Singer would be fantastic at helping you find what you like,” Margo says. “And if you DO have a clear idea, they’re STILL fantastic because they help you fine-tune what you like and make it work beautifully.”

Margo’s Mark of a Well-Designed Kitchen

Construction on Margo’s new kitchen wrapped up in early 2021 and the family absolutely loves their new “headache-free” space.

“I look at a mark of a good kitchen as one in which you can unload the dishwasher and put everything away in 5 minutes or less,” Margo says. “Before, it was always a struggle to put everything away. Now we’ve maximized our space and created a more efficient kitchen.”

“It’s nothing at all to put things away now,” she says. “Even Callie enjoys helping!”
