Cozy Cashmere: John & Anne’s Kitchen Story

They Love to Cook. Now They Love Their Kitchen.

John and Anne loved to cook but did not love their kitchen.

They enjoyed preparing meals together, but their kitchen simply wasn’t working for the way they lived. Their deep pantry made it difficult to see what they already had, prep space was limited and the layout felt closed off from the rest of the home.

They knew what they wanted to change. They wanted a kitchen that made cooking together easier, gave them room to entertain and created a space where they would genuinely enjoy spending time in.

With Singer Kitchens designer Holly helping them think through the possibilities and guiding them through the design decisions, John and Anne created a kitchen designed around the way they live every day.

Better Organization Starts with Better Design

One of John and Anne’s biggest frustrations was their deep sheetrock pantry. Groceries often disappeared into the back, making it difficult to know what they already had before heading to the grocery store.

They wanted a better way to keep everything visible and organized. Holly helped them find it by suggesting a cabinet pantry with rollout trays, giving them easy access to everything inside.

It’s a relatively simple change, but one that has made meal planning, grocery shopping and everyday cooking easier.

They also wanted more room for the kind of cooking they enjoy. By relocating the refrigerator to the wall with the built-in oven and microwave, they were able to create a more cohesive appliance wall while making room for a new 36-inch industrial range and vent hood.

Each decision brought them closer to what they had envisioned: a kitchen that worked better for cooking, entertaining and spending time together.

Opening Up the Heart of the Home

The existing half wall along the peninsula made the kitchen feel separated from the adjoining living area.

They wanted the two spaces to feel more connected.

With Holly’s guidance, they decided to cut down the half wall, allowing for better functioning cabinetry and countertop space while opening the kitchen visually to the rest of the home.

For Anne, the difference was immediately noticeable.

“It made our living space feel much more expansive.”

It wasn’t simply about making the kitchen look larger. It changed the way John and Anne experience the entire living space.

An Island Designed for Everyday Living

John and Anne also saw an opportunity to make their island work much harder for them.

By moving the cooktop, they were able to increase the depth of the island and add full-height cabinetry along the back. Holly helped them think through the storage details, including drawer stacks of varying depths for cookware, utensils and everyday kitchen essentials.

But perhaps the biggest difference is all that new countertop space.

Today, their island has become a place for much more than meal prep.

“Now we have a great space to chop vegetables, decorate cookies with the grandkids, and it’s the perfect landing space when bringing groceries in.”

It’s the kind of flexible workspace they had hoped for, one that adapts easily from an ordinary weekday to time spent with their grandchildren.

Storage Beyond the Kitchen

The thoughtful design didn’t stop there. They wanted to make better use of their breakfast nook, too.

With Holly’s help, they added a run of cabinetry that gives them additional storage and countertop space without taking away from the room’s welcoming feel.

Most mornings, it serves as their coffee bar. When family and friends come over, it becomes a convenient buffet or beverage station.

Instead of unused space, they now have another area of their home that works for the way they entertain and live.

Warm, Soft, and Inviting

Function was important, but John and Anne also wanted their new kitchen to feel warm and welcoming.

They chose soft, creamy off-white cabinetry with a modified shaker door style and paired it with Taj Mahal quartzite. Its subtle feathered veining and warm golden tones bring natural warmth and understated elegance to the room.

Together, their selections create a kitchen that feels timeless, comfortable and personal.

It’s a space that feels just as right for the two of them cooking dinner together as it does when the grandchildren are decorating cookies at the island or friends are gathered around for a meal.

A Kitchen They Love Coming Home To

Throughout the process, John and Anne had a strong sense of what they wanted their kitchen to become. Holly’s role was to listen, help them evaluate their options and guide them toward design decisions that would make that vision work in everyday life.

They appreciated her patience throughout the design process, along with the craftsmanship and attention to detail of Singer Kitchens’ installation team.

And when everything was finished, Anne summed up what the transformation meant to them in one simple sentence:

“Since we had our kitchen renovated by Singer Kitchens, I love being home.”

That may be the best measure of a successful kitchen renovation.

John and Anne didn’t just get more storage, more prep space, or a more open layout. They created a kitchen that makes cooking together easier, gathering with family more enjoyable, and simply being at home feel better.

They loved to cook.

Now they love the kitchen they get to cook in.
