From Peeling Paint to Lasting Blue: Why Laurie & Kenneth Chose to Replace Their Cabinets

For Laurie and Kenneth, blue has always meant calm, elegance and sophistication. When they decided to update their kitchen, they wanted that feeling to live at the center of their home.

But before they replaced their cabinets, they tried something many homeowners consider first: repainting.

At first, it seemed like the logical choice. A fresh coat of paint would update the look without starting over.

Unfortunately, it didn’t last.

The paint began to peel and the frustration set in. The color was right, but the solution wasn’t.

That’s when they decided it was time to create the kitchen they had truly envisioned.

Building on a Clear Vision

Laurie and Kenneth weren’t casually updating their kitchen. They were ready to invest in a space that felt beautiful, functional and personal.

They worked closely with Singer Kitchens’ designer Holly, who took the time to ask thoughtful questions and fully understand their goals before guiding them through the process.

This time, instead of repainting, they chose factory-painted new cabinetry in a soft, nature-inspired blue called Maritime.

The difference wasn’t just visual.

Factory finishes are cured under controlled conditions, making them far more resistant to peeling and wear than site-applied paint. The result is a finish built for daily life not just for first impressions.

The color they loved finally came with the durability they needed.

Designed for Their Lifestyle

Beyond color, Laurie and Kenneth wanted a kitchen that truly worked for them.

Both are tall and standard cabinet heights weren’t ideal. Holly adjusted the wall cabinet height to improve comfort and usability while creating space for their taller countertop appliances.

Storage was another priority.

With Holly’s guidance, they added multiple drawer stacks that dramatically improved organization and accessibility. Slim shaker cabinet doors brought a clean, timeless look that complemented the rest of their updated home.

This wasn’t just a color update. It was a functional upgrade.

Trust Built Over Generations

Choosing Singer Kitchens felt natural.

“We knew the trusted name of Singer Kitchens quite well. Both of our grandparents used Singer and our aunts and uncles too.”

From the beginning, Holly made them feel heard and supported.

“Holly just fit with us. She understood our vision and made us feel comfortable. She stayed on top of every detail and her installers knew and understood her standards.”

Laurie especially appreciated the steady communication throughout the project.

“She was always there to answer a phone call or a text message to make sure everything was going smoothly.”

A Kitchen That Finally Feels Right

Today, every element of their kitchen reflects their shared vision.

“Every day I wake up and I can’t believe this is my kitchen.”

“My husband and I each had our own vision of our new kitchen and Holly helped us achieve the kitchen that was perfect for both of us.”

Their new kitchen isn’t just updated. It’s aligned with how they live, how they cook and how they gather.

After trying re-painting first, Laurie and Kenneth discovered what many homeowners eventually realize:

Sometimes what seems to be a cosmetic issue ends up requiring a deeper solution.

Considering Repainting Your Cabinets?

If you’re debating whether to repaint or replace your cabinets, the right answer depends on what’s really frustrating you.
If it’s just the color, repainting might make sense.

If it’s durability, storage, layout or long-term wear, it may be worth exploring replacement before committing to another short-term fix.
