When Debra and her husband moved to New Orleans to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren, they chose a home in the heart of the Irish Channel. It didn’t take long before she realized her kitchen needed more than just a few updates. As her appliances began breaking one by one, Debra saw an opportunity to not only replace them, but to reimagine the space where she spends so much of her time.
A Kitchen for Real Living
Debra is a passionate home cook who values control over the ingredients and safety of her food. She prepares meals regularly not only for herself and her husband but also for her daughters and their families. When the grandchildren visit, the kitchen becomes a place of joy, where baking brownies together is a beloved tradition.
Her original kitchen layout made these moments more difficult than they needed to be. The side-by-side refrigerator was wedged too close to the wall, making the freezer hard to access. And with limited storage, keeping things organized was a constant challenge.
Thoughtful Design, Tailored to Her Life
Debra had a vision for what she wanted in her new kitchen, a space that felt peaceful, practical, and welcoming for her family. She needed more storage, better organization, and a layout that truly worked for how she lives and cooks.
With that vision in mind, she teamed up with Singer Kitchens designer Cat, who helped bring it to life through thoughtful design. Cat asked questions and listened closely to Debra’s needs and offered creative solutions that aligned with her goals.
Together, they reimagined the layout. By relocating her refrigerator, Debra was able to add additional cabinetry and countertop space which made it easier for her to prep meals and bake with her grandkids. She also extended the bar area to create more seating and better flow.
Debra’s choices of stacked cabinets reaching to the ceiling, floating shelves for everyday essentials, and slim shaker style cabinets reflect her personal style while making the space feel cohesive and efficient. With Cat’s design expertise supporting her every step of the way, Debra created a kitchen that’s as functional as it is beautiful.
A Natural, Peaceful Aesthetic
Debra’s new kitchen features one of today’s rising design trends: soft, sandy-toned cabinets which is a warm alternative to the stark whites of years past. Complemented by a full-height backsplash, waterfall countertop edge, slim shaker cabinet doors, and earthy paint tones, the overall effect is serene and contemporary.
It’s a kitchen designed for real living. Functional, welcoming, and styled for the way Debra actually uses it every day.
Working with Singer Kitchens
Debra was especially grateful for Cat’s energetic and attentive approach. Cat took the time to listen, offer ideas, and make sure Debra felt confident every step of the way. The collaboration led to a result that was not only practical and beautiful, but also personal. She also praised our installer Jake, whose professionalism and skill made her feel completely comfortable throughout the renovation process.
A Kitchen That Feels As Good As It Looks
Debra’s kitchen transformation is a great example of why great design isn’t just about looks—it’s about how a space works and feels every day. With thoughtful design, smart solutions, and a little inspiration from her grandchildren, Debra now has a kitchen where memories are made, meals are shared, and everything has its place.
